Pretty Awesome! But...

I'm not going to download this until it's complete. :P Your musical ideas are amazing, your instrumentation is amazing and this first half or first third of the song is pretty well organized. Just watch out, towards the end the ideas seemed to get a little disorganized, but maybe that's just because this isn't finished yet. Build it up towards the end, maybe repeat a previously-used idea but with extra for the climax. I'll completely download once this is finished! :D

I feel the same way entirely. That last section doesnt follow a real patten of any kind. If / when I finish this, i will definitely be modifying that. :D Thanks alot for the review!

Instrumentation, mainly

This had great musical ideas, and the instrument choice at times was cool, but unfortunately a lot of the instruments you chose just weren't strong enough to carry the song. Everything sounds like accompaniment, so while I love your chord progression and your melodies and all, it just doesn't make me want to dance because it's all so subdued. I'd love to hear this once it's sounding more powerful. By the way, what program are you using?

Omega-Ravager responds:

Thanks for some constructive critique!

I use Fl 9 (demo till I finish High School. . .)
I was planning on doing some more with it but at 1:30 and anywhere that sounds like that it was drawing over 50% CPU power, and it's hard to decide what notes sound good with everything when it's crackling like crazy (I need a new comp, the list is being put together for it now :|)

When I get the full version I plan on making this song even more epic!

It wasn't quite as dancy as it could've been because I didn't plan on remixing Paradise on E till halfway through.

The synth I used for the main melody as I brought it in I realized that the notes I was using were almost the same as it so I said "Ah what the heck" and put it together.

Glad you like what I have so far.

Great, but

Your effects are way too pronounced! The bass starting at 0:08 is wayyy too grindy, or too loud. Either way, it's just annoying, and ruins an otherwise awesome part. The 8-bit sounding bass later in the song is a bit too harsh too. I'm not the type to complain about raspy sound effects (my favourite song is Buzztone Symphony) but here they're just a little overused. Also, you could cut down on the reverb a bit.

Don't take this criticism too hard, it's meant to be constructive. The music itself is awesome, it's just that the overuse of effects is kind of a drawback. Can't wait to see this when it's well mastered! :D

Feddey responds:

Thanx for the tip! I know the first part of the song was a bit poor thinking about sound quality.. I'm not that good in FL studio yet, but i will try to fix it and cut down on the reverb and effects aswell..

Thanx again for the review, it really helps me make better music! =)

Amazing!

Not only did DJ Contacreast make this when he was 12, but it somehow has 8 million views on youtube.

On top of that, the melody and chord progression and incredibly catchy, the choice of instruments is amazing and besides him running a bit short in the second half of the song, this is awesome and I just can't stop listening to it!

yea this guy is freeekin awesome :)

Great start!

This song is an awesome foundation for an impression-based song. This would make awesome game music, which would be great for just about any game, cause it's got a kind of lost, frantic but epic feeling.

In the intro (0:00 - 0:25), maybe the percussion stands out a little too much, but what's perfect about this intro is that it sets up the mood of the song perfectly. Most important, it paves the way for the solo synth.

From 0:25 - 0:31, I really started to like this, and it was download-worthy. The synth, with its distant sound and good use of reverb, carries on the mood of distance, desperation and epicness very well.

i was disappointed when I got past 0:31 and saw that the solo synth wasn't the main idea for the song, cause in my opinion, it should be. The strings are just too dramatic and upfront, so they kill the mood you set up so well before. That's why this song is only an 8 instead of a 10.

My advice - keep the mood alive. An awesome name for this song would be "The Dark Between the Stars" cause it fits the last-stand-struggle epicness it has, and the way to keep this mood alive would be to continue using the solo synth instrument as the main voice of the song.

What would make this song *perfect* would be: The synth being the main voice of the song with a solid but progressive melody; some distant-sounding, high-pithced strings (in the background) to help hold up the mood; and some cool percussion/sound effects that suit the mood.

This would make all the difference, and it wouldn't be surprising to see this song hit the tops of charts on newgrounds. It would be worth downloading to use in games, but also just to listen to.
